Below are examples of my work in traditional scraperboard illustration—a process which starts on a board heavily coated with white kaolin (clay) ] topped with a coat of black ink. The illustrator uses a variety of sharp tools to scrape away the black ink and make white lines — working from dark to light. The result is similar to engraving. Also shown is a pen-and-ink drawing of a Tuareg tribesman.
